TwinCAT Condition Monitoring Library

TwinCAT Condition Monitoring Library

A condition monitoring system makes condition-oriented maintenance possible by means of precise measurement technology and mathematical algorithms. The probability of an unexpected machine failure can be drastically reduced with an intelligent early warning system. Furthermore, condition monitoring can provide innovative impetus for development and design. The TwinCAT Condition Monitoring Library enables the integration of such an early warning system into a PC-based controller.

The new TwinCAT library offers a PLC and a C++ interface to a condition monitoring server, which performs the actual calculations. This way, applications in a high-level language can also be realised in addition to classic PLC applications in IEC 61131-3. In general, the functions of the library are structured very modularly, resulting in a sort of construction kit with mathematical algorithms. Users can serve themselves from this kit, depending upon the application background. Furthermore, they have the option to develop a scalable solution on different platforms.

The functions provided by the library extend across the main fields of frequency analysis, statistics and pattern recognition. Among other things, users can integrate spectral analysis, various window functions, digital filters, the Hilbert envelope or a Cepstrum into their frequency analysis application. In turn, they can evaluate the results by means of statistical functions, e.g. with the aid of percentiles, the crest factor or by considering the standard deviation. In the field of pattern recognition, algorithms for automatic classification are implemented that enable the adaptation and monitoring of limit values, among other things. On top of that, the detailed documentation for this supplement product offers not only explanations of the individual functions, but also analysis concepts for different applications.

The TwinCAT Condition Monitoring Library is suitable both for the monitoring of bearings and gearboxes, as well as other mechanical parts of a machine, and for the detection of damage to wind turbines. Together with the EtherCAT I/Os, such as the EL3632, and the TwinCAT Scope 2, it rounds off the range of products developed by Beckhoff for PC-based signal analysis.
